Home Visiting Day Proclamations
Proclamations are a great way to acknowledge and celebrate the impact of home visiting programs and highlight their importance in building stronger, healthier communities.

“As a former home visiting client, I am so very excited that this day is again being recognized and celebrated by our county. The support and encouragement that home visiting parent coaches provide can be such a positive experience for both parents and babies. Parenting is a tough journey, and having a home visitor by your side guiding you and advocating for you during those early years can be a game changer for parent and baby — from pregnancy and birth to bonding and healthy development. It definitely was for me.”

County and City Proclamations

We thank the L.A. County Board of Supervisors for offically proclaiming Home Visiting Day in L.A. County in April since 2022.
Each year, the Board has unanimously voted to pass the motion introduced by Supervisors Hilda L. Solis and Janice Hahn. See the motion passed for Home Visiting Day 2025.
In 2024, city councils in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Lancaster and Palmdale also issued proclamations and recognitions honoring Home Visiting Day. Thank you for the support!
See this article for a recap of the 2024 Home Visiting Day proclamations and resolutions.
Getting Your City Council to Pass a Proclamation

Make it official! Ask your mayor or city council to proclaim April 18, 2025, as Home Visiting Day in your town! It’s a great opportunity for your organization to partner with local leaders to spread the word about home visiting in your community.
How to Get a Proclamation
Follow these steps to request one.- See if there’s a formal process. It might mean contacting your city council member. Check this Google Sheet for contact information. If you work with a home visiting organization, see this sheet for details on the process in your city.
- If you plan to contact your mayor, let us know by adding your name and org in the last column of the Google Sheet.
- Download this sample proclamation (a Word doc, so you can edit) and customize it for your city and mayor. (Click here to see a pdf of the sample proclamation.)
- Copy and customize the template email below and send it. You may have to follow up by email or phone.
- Once you receive the proclamation, please email it (a link or photo) to Consortium@LABestBabies.org so we can share it.
Thanks for stepping up and being an HV Day champion!

Dear Esteemed Deputies of the Honorable Mayor [Your Mayor’s Name],
I would like to request that Mayor [Last Name] proclaim April 18, 2025, Home Visiting Day in [Your City]. We at [Your Organization’s Name] are joining over 60 other community organizations and hospitals in celebrating the day, and using the opportunity to spread the word about the benefits of free early childhood home visiting programs. As they did last year, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors again voted unanimously to proclaim the day this year.
With federal, state, and L.A. County funding, home visiting programs are free and provide a lifeline to many struggling pregnant women and underserved families in our city and across the county. On April 18, we’d like to highlight these important programs and their success in connecting families to services for mental and perinatal health, child development, housing, and much more.
These programs are proven to improve maternal and child health outcomes – and to advance health equity overall. We just need more families to find out about them! This year we’re promoting L.A. County’s Home Visiting eDirectory, which helps families learn which free services are available to them.
I’ve attached a sample proclamation that you can use (it’s a Word doc, so you can edit). If you prefer a pdf version, that’s here.
